Dragonettes
Church of the Light
The most powerful and near omnipresent religious organization in the skies above Oka. The church of light maintain houses of worship to the gods of the court of the light all over Oka, nary a town may be found without at least a shrine dedicated to the divine court and even in the lowliest of keep or house one would find an idol to their splendor.
As part of the apparatus of power within the kingdom it is through their divine mandate that the crown is empowered, and by the power of the crown the church is made able to carry out their duties.
Lead by the most ancient of dragons, the church remembers their commands even if they may have been passed lifetimes ago.
The Royal Inquisition
By mandate of both the crown and the church, the Royal Inquisition stand above all but the Royal family and the high priests themselves
Tasked with seeking out the traitor and the corruption of the dark, as all of the land may know. There lies deeper purpose to the ranks of the inquisition.
The archivists, slave away beneath great churches and palaces, hoarding knowledge of a bygone age, By order of the gods they labor, for eternity if needed.
The artificers, last stewards of the wonders of old, see safe the cities and the secrets within.
The Crown
The crown, the organization tasked with leading all of draconic kind against the darkness of the world. Elected by the gods themselves the Royal line of Liviticus has served for centuries beyond counting. The eldest of the line, be they king or queen rule without question over all which is known.
Through the church they are made legitimate in their duties and through their various apparatus their will is applied to their subjects.
The Royal Guard
His or her majesty’s armed forces, the primary professional and standing army of the dragonettes. Tasked with both protecting the major cities, trade routes, and keeps as well as hunting the traitor, the heretic, and the forces of evil till the ends of the world.
Their principal tool for achieving this is the dragon wing. A formation of 2 or more dragons tasked with anything from patrol of trade routes to laying siege to rebellious keeps.
The dragons and their crews are often supplemented by detachments of dragonettes when able, be they foot soldiers, lancers or specialists needed for the task ahead.
In times of peril the crown may call his banners, and it will be under the banner of the Guard that they shall fly to war.
Dragonettes under arms
The guard may never be in all places at once, nor are everyone entitled or even interested in their aid from time to time. By numbers by far the majority of dragonettes under arms are not under the Guard’s command. They are city and town militia, or sanctioned mercenary companies with esteemed histories and accomplishments such as the trading guild’s escorts. Keep dwellers too, one will not find a single keep that cannot sport at least a handful of guards armed and armored for a fight.
Though there are of course also the less savory variants. Little more than brigands extorting the unfortunate for coin, or, failing that, simply taking what they wish as payment for security which the guard cannot provide.
In times of war such forces may all be called upon to serve in the lines of battle. Every man and woman who may wield a bow or a blade. The sky turns black when the banners are called and the dragonettes go to war
Trading Guild
The lifeblood of the kingdom, the trading guild brings materials and supplies from one end of the world to another, by dragon back or island bound caravan.
The guild consists of many independent traders who must both earn and pay for their title as members of the guild. Often seen as partnered couples of dragonette and dragon set to make their fortune playing the various routs of the kingdom.
Many are either born into the life of a trader or have already tried their hand at less official business to earn their place at the guild.
With acceptance as a true trader comes many boons, be they services or opportunities. Such as the trade escorts of the guild, in house mercenaries, trained, tested, and vetted. Or the right to deliver the mail to keeps and towns far and wide.
Engineering Guild
The workshop of the kingdom, the engineering guild’s many branches reach from time pieces to aqueducts. It is a disjointed organization based mostly in veterancy and tradition, with the craftsmaster overseeing all manner of projects past, present, and future.
Cartographers Guild
A far smaller and more specialized guild than most, but no less important. The cartographers guild are tasked with documenting the lay of the land as well as preserving usable records of what lays beyond as much as possible.
It is also the cartographers guild who maintain the archives of claims over all the islands on Oka, every plot, keep and mine is documented in excruciating detail.
Royal Tax Collection Service
Quite possibly the most hated force for good in all the land, the tax collection service does as the name implies, they levy taxes from all the kingdom, be it in coin, produce or service from far and wide. Coin from the wealthy bankers of the cities, metals and cloths from the towns and inner keeps, furs and foods from the frontier. They keep the apparatus of the crown fed and functioning, even if at the expense of the loyal subjects.
Outsiders
Forces of the Dark
The taint of corruption which blights the land. Unholy forces which collude under the gods of the court of darkness to extinguish the light of the land once and for all.
Lead by the elusive Doetna, creatures of infamy and legend, they plague the lands with their blight. Dark knights and witches carrying out the commands of their dark overlords and hoards of Darklings to carry out the deed.
Their mastery of forbidden arts opens the way to many abilities many would consider, unnatural. The bending of beasts to their will and the willful corruption of both the body and the soul in exchange for power and control.
The bugs of the south
A mysterious race of the southern lands. Little is known of their true nature. Tales of fantastical cities or hives as one may call them, beyond where even the stoutest of dragon may reach. Most who know well of the bugs live in the south lands, the washed out border to the lands beyond.
A place of peril and slaughter when the winds blow wrong, Swarms uncounted descending unwittingly on what is not theirs to claim. Many a battle has been fought against the simple minded insects, and often won. Though the bugs seem to care little, for there is always more to come.
